“Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the way.”
Luke 10:4 (NKJV)
As disciples of Jesus, we are called to take up our cross daily and follow Him. We are required to live a life of sacrifice and so fulfil purpose. We must move from our comfort zones and give all to Him. Jesus gave similar instructions to His disciples in Luke 9:3 and 10:4.
His instructions to us remind us that as long as we are servants, the cares of this life should not be a hindrance. Philippians 4:19 informs us that God will supply all our needs. I strongly believe that our spiritual needs are included in this ‘package’.
The Holy Spirit is omniscient. As long as we are obedient, He will direct our paths. He will tell us where to go, and when we get there, He will be our source and provide the resources, spiritual and physical.
The disciples were advised not to greet anyone along the way. This is such important advice. Many times, after receiving guidance from the Holy Spirit, believers would show up and offer
personal advice or try to discourage you from even moving forward. At this point, one has to stand firm and hold fast to the guidance given by the Holy Spirit.
While working with a group to plan lessons for children, we realised that one can never visualise the complete picture that would be painted. At the end of every venture, we agreed that it was the Holy Spirit’s supernatural intervention that allowed everyone and everything to work together for our good and God’s glory. God puts the super on our natural.
After meditating on the advice that Jesus gave His disciples, one must conclude that as we cast our cares on Jesus, we leave room to accept whatever the Spirit has to give. When one releases oneself to the Spirit, there is a feeling of being supernaturally carried. Working with the Holy Spirit is an awesome experience. He’s the third person in the Trinity. The one whom Jesus sent to be our Helper. Jesus expects us to do greater works than He. The Holy Spirit lives within us to help in this regard. This gives us a calm assurance and makes the journey exciting.
